YouTube debuted live streaming services last Friday with the caveat that only approved partners would get the green light. YouTube Live could be a great tool for covering an Apple keynote speech, granting readers live video access without having to pay for the bandwidth needed to broadcast a video feed for an hour and a half.
Indeed, for reporters covering just about any newsworthy event where a traditional TV feed isn’t available, YouTube Live could be a major boon. At the same time, Google has to make sure that individual YouTube Live members don’t broadcast events like concerts and sports matches where some TV network has paid for broadcast rights.
